Assessment

For both initial and reassessment there are minimum entry requirements.

Initial entry requires a trade qualification in gas, heating and ventilating, oil or plumbing plus proven industry experience. It may be possible to take the initial assessment if there is proof of previous work in the industry such as an expired ACOP/CORGI card.

By eliminating repetitive tasks we have been able to significantly shorten the initial appliance assessments and up to five appliances can be taken in just one day.

Reassessment entry is a quicker route to certification, but is only applicable where candidates have, within the past year and a day, held ACS certification in each of the modules requiring to be assessed.

To work on gas for commercial gain, an individual must be registered with the Gas Regulator. To register you must be competent, and the permissible measure of this is holding an ACS certificate.

Training

We have also adopted the proven fast track approach for our successful training programmes with major reductions in the time needed to complete training.

We offer two different theory-only training courses, both linked to our distance learning programme and both one-day duration. The first course covers what is required to complete the core assessment CCN1. The second course focuses on the most popular appliances: boilers, cookers, fires, water heaters and warm air – all five appliances being covered in the one day. Half-day courses are also available for boilers only.

Our highly popular one-day practical training course is offered as an extension to the theory course. During the day customers have the opportunity to practise the techniques covered in the theory training.

For reassessment we operate on the assumption that most candidates have a good understanding of how to carry out safety tests but may not have kept up to date with prevailing requirements and regulations and a one-day refresher course is usually adequate.

To fully benefit from the quality of our practical training we deliberately keep group numbers small.

Assessment and training can either run continuously or with a weekend break, to suit individual preferences.

Equipment: We can source a variety of test equipment at discounted prices, including flue gas analysers.
