Requirements

Entry requirements before assessment is undertaken vary, depending on the award/course. The following is an overview of what's required, with more detail available at the relevant sections for each course. DOMESTIC GAS and COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL GAS
Membership of the Gas Safe Register is a mandatory requirement for persons carrying out gas related work for commercial gain.
- All engineers are required to hold an accreditation with the Accredited Certification Scheme known as ACS.
- The scope of assessment needs to be relative to the areas of work undertaken.
- These awards are renewable every five years.
LPG GAS
Membership of Gas Safe is a mandatory requirement for persons carrying out gas related work for commercial gain.
- All engineers are required to hold an accreditation with the Accredited Certification Scheme known as ACS.
- This scheme is monitored by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
- The scope of assessment needs to be relative to the areas of work undertaken.
- These awards are renewable every five years.
OFTEC OIL
It is a legal requirement that Building Control is notified prior to any oil-fired work being undertaken. Registering as a member of OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association for the Petroleum Industry) allows you to self-certify without the need to involve Building Control. This complies with Part J of the Building Regulations and these awards are renewable every five years.
ELECTRICAL
It is a legal requirement that all proposed electrical installation work in dwellings has to be notified to Building Control before work commences.
- The Part P Award is administered by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and is renewable every five years.
- The 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations is now in force and anyone undertaking electrical work is required to gain a qualification demonstrating knowledge of the current wiring regulations.
- Portable Appliance Testing is a lifetime award which complies with the PURE Health and Safety at Work Act.
WATER
It is a legal requirement that all proposed installation work in dwellings is notified to Building Control before work commences. This is compliant with Part G of the Building Regulations and is administered by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG).
- The Unvented Hot Water Award is renewable every five years.
- Water Regulations is a lifetime award.
